Defining Moments - Coaching & Counselling - North West UK

About Jenny Ball

Hi, my name is Jenny Ball and I would like to share with you my story so far. I hope it gives you an understanding as to why I decided to specialise in Health & Wellbeing Coaching.

Since leaving school, I have always had a keen interest in Health and Wellbeing. After gaining a National Diploma in Health at college, I went on to achieve a Health Sciences degree at University. After trying out couple of different pathways, I began working on a temporary basis for the NHS where I specialised in Recruitment, Retention and Workforce Planning. I continued my HR career within the Civil Service and NHS progressing to a HR Business Advisor role, where I specialised in cases dealing with Stress and Bullying & Harassment by becoming a trained investigator. It was here that I realised I had a natural way of putting people at ease, enabling them to open up and feel like they were able to break down barriers and ultimately achieve anything.

Keen to put my skills to good use and further my own development, I undertook my CIPD Training qualification in 2005 and have now been designing, delivering and implementing training and development for over six years. I am currently working as an L&D Manager for a company who supports adults and children with learning and physical disabilities and mental health issues; which brings me onto another passion of mine.

I have always had, from a very early age, an extreme empathy and compassion for people; particularly for those who are more vulnerable and less fortunate than me. I started volunteering from the age of 12; spending time in hospices; caring for and visiting the elderly in their homes; and attending social clubs for adults with learning and physical disabilities. In 2001, I spent six months volunteering as a teacher in Ghana, delivering English lessons to underprivileged children who were desperate for an education but could not afford one. Much of my time there was spent working in an orphanage where I looked after and cared for young children who had either been abandoned, or who were for whatever reason, did not have families. I also dedicated a lot of time to working with the local community to promote learning and education.

As a professional trainer and coach, I recognise the importance and value of dedicating quality time to my own personal and professional development and it is my belief that we must never stop learning, growing and developing. I have recently gained an Introduction to NLP Certificate and will shortly be undertaking a 3 day Health and Wellbeing Training and Facilitation course which focuses on changing people’s health behaviour with a view to improving the overall picture of health in the North West.

From a very personal point of view, I have battled with my weight and body image for the last 17 years and it is only now, through the 1:1 sessions I have with my own coach that I am moving forward. Going from a person who weighed over 20 stone and was exhausted just walking to the bus stop, to the healthy, fit and active person I am today, has proven to me that anything is possible, if you really want it.

Alongside weight management, I am also enormously passionate about helping people to get fit, improve their health, reduce stress levels and achieve an overall sense of wellbeing.

It is my belief, that throughout our lives, we will all, at some stage suffer from stress, or at the very least, feel under an overwhelming amount of pressure. For as long as I can remember, I have always been the one to take on far too much (both at work and at home) and I never imagined that one day stress would affect me! Nicknamed “Wonderman” by my family and friends – surely this ‘made up illness’ was something that only happened to weak people? Those who couldn’t cope? Those who weren’t as strong as I was? How wrong I was….

Now, every single day in my career, I get the unique opportunity to motivate and inspire people; helping them to realise their true potential; believe anything is possible and ultimately be the very best they can be.

Thank you for taking the time to read a bit about me. If any of this has struck a chord with you, and you would like to find out how I can help you, then I would love to hear from you.

I look forward to meeting you again soon where together we will make the changes you desire and you that step closer to your hopes, desires and dreams.

Warm Wishes,
Jenny.
